Requirement
North Somerset Council (NSC) had a specific requirement to provide symmetric broadband connectivity to 13 primary schools as well as 22 other Council locations in the Weston-super-Mare area.
Challenges
Each location had to receive minimum symmetric bandwidth of 2Mbps. Additionally, the network had to deliver Quality of Service (QoS) so that data traffic from different user groups could be split securely and routed across the network according to pre-determined access parameters. NSC also stipulated very tight budget and timescale constraints for the project.
Solution
Updata constructed a managed network to connect all 35 sites in Weston-super-Mare with symmetrical broadband speeds of 2Mbps. The sites are supported with a high-capacity optical backbone.
In March 2007, the contract was renewed for a further three years.
