What matters most to Updata is providing a great service for our clients – and we’re proud that we haven’t lost a single client since the business was founded in 2003. These case studies tell you how we’ve delivered reliable, flexible and cost-effective Public Sector Networks for four of them.

Bedfordshire – Meeting the growing demand for connectivity and responding to local governance changes

To provide high-speed access for schools spread across a largely rural area with low population density, Updata built an innovative network combining local copper connections with wireless backhaul. Today, after significant changes in local authority governance in the region, the 100MBps network combines fibre and copper and reaches 250 schools and other sites across the two unitary authorities of Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire.

Bury – Providing a cost-effective local-loop unbundling service to support schools connectivity

Faced with a 400% increase in fibre costs, Bury Metropolitan Borough Council needed a more cost-effective way to deliver their commitment to provide high-speed Internet connectivity to support digital learning in its schools. Updata provided a comprehensive local loop unbundling solution, which provided the performance required at a much lower cost and with higher QoS.

Cheshire – Cutting costs and integrating existing infrastructure.

Cheshire County Council was faced with significant price increases to existing BT-supplied circuits and turned to Updata for a more cost-effective alternative. Updata built a network combining local copper connections with the Authority’s existing radio backbone.  Today the network serves 181 schools  across the unitary authorities of Cheshire West & Chester and Cheshire East, providing 10MBps (and in some cases 20MBps) symmetric connections.

Peterborough – Delivering the bandwidth required to transform learning

With schools demanding ever more network performance to support video conferencing and virtual learning environments, Peterborough City Council looked to Updata to significantly enhance their network. Updata built a network capable of delivering speeds of between 10Mbps and 10 Gbps and also provided Becta-compliant Internet filtering, mail services, Web hosting and anti-virus.
